Surrounded by lakes and beautifully situated along New Zealand's longest river the mighty Waikato river, the North Waikato has something to cater for everyone's needs with Golf courses, Lakes, Walkways, Gardens, Speedway, Museums, Coal mines, Picnic spots, Swimming pools and Accommodation to suit all budgets. The North Waikato also has New Zealand's largest power station and New Zealand's largest candy shop. The temperate climate of the north Waikato provides ideal conditions for farming.

Image100 kilometres south of the country's largest city (Auckland) and 35 kilometres north of the country's largest inland city (Hamilton) is Huntly, the largest town in the Waikato district and is central to the North Waikato area. Huntly is one of New Zealand's main coal mining centres and is home to the massive coal-fired Huntly power station. The towns and villages of Rangiriri, Te Kauwhata, Taupiri, Maramarua and Meremere are also situated within the North Waikato area.
